This weeks question:
Q: Happy Mother's Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?
Oh geez... OHHHH GEEZ. This took me a long while to figure out. I went through Goodreads books and couldn't find one I liked best. I'm going to turn this question around and tell you why it's hard to find one (at least for me).
Mothers are supposed to be nurturing, kind, always there for the daughter/son, always looking out for them... but a lot of books have them doing the opposite They either: Die, let the characters do something stupid, aren't in the book that much, are there for support but then leave the character hanging, leave them for some reason (not death), ect. If I were to pick one, it would have to be like MY mother. Mine has been there for me all the time! Without her I'd be doing absolutely nothing with my life; she's the rock I lean on.
Out of my Goodreads list I'd say:
Don't-mess-with-me mother award: Alex's mother from Perfect Chemistry
Mother keeping her shit together in a dire-situation award: Katniss's mother (after her husband dying breakdown)
Mother who doesn't care who you look like award: Ashlyn from The Lord of the Underworld series
Backstabbing mother award: Heather Wells from Size 12 and Ready to Rock mother (took all of her money and ran away)
Most clueless mother award: Katys mom from the Lux series
Mother I want to slap: Nora's from Hush Hush
Only mother who will keep calm after horrible character situation choices: Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes
Tell me in the comments:
What award would you give a characters mother?
