When eighteen-year-old Hunter Jackson and his half sister, Ashlin, return to their dad’s for the first winter in years, they expect everything to be just like the warmer months they’d spent there as kids. And it is—at first. But Chance, the charismatic and adventurous boy who made their summers epic, is harboring deep secrets. Secrets that are quickly spiraling into something else entirely.
The reason they've never met Chance’s parents or seen his home is becoming clearer. And what the siblings used to think of as Chance's quirks—the outrageous stories, his clinginess, his dangerous impulsiveness—are now warning signs that something is seriously off.
Then Chance's mom turns up with a bullet to the head, and all eyes shift to Chance and his dad. Hunter and Ashlin know Chance is innocent...they just have to prove it. But how can they protect the boy they both love when they can’t trust a word Chance says?

About the author:
Once upon a time, Kelley York was born in central California. And it's there she she still resides with her lovely wife, step-daughter, and an abundance of cats, while fantasizing about moving to England or Ireland. She has a fascination with bells and animals, is a lover of video games, Doctor Who, manga and anime, and likes to pretend she’s a decent photographer. Her life goal is to find a real unicorn. Or at least write about them.
Kelley is a sucker for dark fiction. She loves writing twisted characters, tragic happenings, and bittersweet endings that leave you wondering and crying. Character development takes center stage in her books because the bounds of a person's character and the workings of their mind are limitless.
Her first book, HUSHED, was released by Entangled Publishing in December 2011. Her second and third books, HOLLOWED and SUICIDE WATCH, were released in 2012, and her next Entangled book, MADE OF STARS, is slated for October 1st, 2013. She is currently seeking representation.

Interview:
1. What inspired you to write this book?
I always start my books with a character idea. I'm really big on character relationships and interactions—family, friends, romances, you name it—so my biggest love is creating a cast of characters, putting them together, and letting them interact to tell a story.
2. What characters do you connect with most?
I have a special bond with my 'broken' characters. We're talking Archer from Hushed, Vincent from Suicide Watch, and Chance from Made of Stars. I connect to them each in different ways. Vincent was the one character wherein I drew a lot from personal experiences in order to write, so to date, I feel I'm closest to him.
3. What's your favorite book-turned movie?
Ohh, good question! I loved Studio Ghibli's rendition of Howl's Moving Castle. My absolute fave in terms of YA books would be The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The movie was absolutely perfect and kept so close to the book. Not to mention, the casting was A+.
4. If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?
Hmm. I'd say Evan from Hushed. He's such a laid back, warm, friendly guy and I think we would hit it off.
5. Can you tell us about any other books you're writing?
There are a few in progress! The one the world is likely to see soonest is an LGBT story called Dirty London and it is, more than anything, a sibling story. It revolves a lot around a girl named London and her sister, Jasmine, and also with London dealing with her sexuality in a conservative school.
I have another book I'm totally in love with whose title I haven't settled on just yet. Jasper is the main character in that one, and the story starts with him arriving in Point Reyes, California, after having had a nervous breakdown and needing to get away from college/his family to kind of reevaluate his life.
6. What do you do in your spare time?
I have a family and a day job, so obviously a lot of time goes there. I read when I can. I write. I'm addicted to Tumblr. I'm also a gamer; I'm currently playing through Resident Evil 4 for the hundredth time.
7. Who's your inspiration?
I don't feel like any one person inspires me to write, really? I write because I have all these characters in my head and I don't know what else to do with them. I will say, sometimes I'm reading and find a book so beautiful I'm compelled to write more because I want to create something even half as lovely as that author.
8. If you were stranded on a desert island which character do you want by your side?
Wizard Howl so he could take me home. ;)
9. Team Edward or Jacob?
I'm Team Jasper+Alice. They were pretty much the only thing I liked about those books.
10. Team Peeta or Gale?
Keeping in mind I've only read the first book, I'll be the odd man out by saying Gale.
11. What are you reading now?
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King. I've been really slow on it because I've been so busy, but the prose is beautiful and the story is unique.
