Blurb:

Skye followed her long time boyfriend to Seattle for their first year of college, but he dumped her after only a week. The relationship brought only pain and destruction in Skye's life, and yet, she can't bring herself to open up and live her life.
"What if I am already broken into pieces?"
She hates to be touched, hiding under her oversized shirts and behind her wild frizzy hair. Even her bubbly roommate can't reach her. And yet ...
"I'm the guy who knows how you can hurt so much that your insides feel like they're cut and bleeding."
The tall, handsome, and tattooed TA in her psychology class changes everything when he literally collides with her and confronts her. For the first time in a long time, she wants to try and open up to this guy whose dark, intense eyes can't hide his own pain despite his dazzling smile getting to her.
However, just when she's starting to live again, her ex-boyfriend comes back, breaking her time and time again, making it all the more complicated.
She wants to fight for herself and for this building thing with the TA, even when he pushes her away, but can two broken people patch each other up?
"I never thought colliding with someone could change lives, but it is possible."

“Patch Up is intense, riveting, heartbreakingly sad at times, angsty, heartwarming, and inspirational. I was hooked from the start. Had I not passed out in the wee hours of the morning, I would have read Parch up straight through, it is THAT good.” Dawn L

Excerpt:

(The first meeting)

Without paying attention to my surroundings, I turn to my left to walk toward the row closer to the door where a seat is available. I take a step and collide with a hard body, almost toppling me over on the ground for the second time in less than an hour. A strong hand grips me firmly by the forearm. My body stiffens and my breath catches in my throat. It’s as if I can’t move besides yanking my arm free without looking up to see who I collided with.

“Are you all right?” he asks me in a deep and calm voice.

My eyes wander from my red Converse to his dark boots. I have to calm down. I’m being ridiculous. Calm down. I take a deep breath and look up slowly. Long, muscled legs in beat up dark blue jeans, an old black leather jacket open over a dark grey V-neck sweater that showcases an impressive tall body with broad shoulders and finally, longish and messy black hair, perfect straight nose, full lips, high cheekbones and expressive soft dark eyes that lock with my bluish-greyish ones. He looks older with his goatee perfectly trimmed. A perfect hot mess many girls would say. I’m just intimidated by this stranger, though.

“I’m fine,” I reply, my voice even. I push away some of my untamed locks and curse my auburn frizzy hair that is always all over the place.

What other reviewers had to say -

“The romance is slow-building and that makes it feel more realistic. The storyline is strong and holds its own without the romance and then the romance is just the cherry on the cake.” Laura Carter

“At the end of this book I was crying hard and wished I could reach in and save Skye from her fate.” Author Karen Swart

“You reach into the mind of the main character, Skye, and find yourself looking at the world very differently. The emotions I experience reading this novel was epic. One moment I would be so sad, and then over to smiling and then boom, I hated someone.” Janine Fourie – Eclipse Reviews

About The Author –

Stephanie Witter is a French dreamer. She started English at three and fell in love with the language. Always with a book - or two - close by, she soon started reading in English when she couldn't wait to see Harry Potter translated in French. After a while, reading wasn't enough and she started writing young adult and new adult contemporary novels always filled with drama. Now she hopes to translate English novels in her mother tongue as her everyday job. By My Side is her debut novel.

Interview -

1. What inspired you to write this book?

I don't want to spoiler anything, but I had the idea of this story because I know some women who were in an abusive relationship. It inspired me because even if they were trapped into these relationship for months or years, they had an inner strength too often overlooked. I wanted to write about this and I thought that a young woman was a perfect choice to show how difficult it was to overcome this while you're supposed to think about your future as an adult.

2. What characters do you connect with the most?

Without a doubt Skye. I spents weeks in her head, so to speak. Skye is not me, but I put a little of myself here and there and for some unknown reason, I feel like I understand her. I know, it's weird because it's just a fictional character, but I spent too much time on Patch Up to really think about these characters as just characters.

3. What's your favorite book-turned movie?

It's difficult to answer. You have to know that I'm not a big fan of movies adapted from books. I can't really forget about the book so I'm always thinking about the things missing and how I didn't see this or that the same way. That being said, I think the movie Hunger Games is quite amazing. At least, that's the first movie that comes to my mind right now. :)

4. If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

From Patch Up, Kate. This girl is sweet and has her own lot to deal with and yet she's always smiling and upbeat.
From a New Adult novel I recently finished writing, I'd love to have London as a best friend. That girl is really something else. But shh! Right now it's a secret. ;)

5. Can you tell us about any other books you're writing?

I can tell you a few words, of course. :)
I wrote the sequel of Patch Up. It's currently with one of my beta reader and it'll be the last book with Skye and Duke. Though, there will be a companion novel centered on Kate and Derek. I have yet to write it.
I'm currently working with another beta reader on a YA contemporary romance. It'll be a trilogy if this first one is any good.
I recently finished the first draft of a sexy and funny NA contemporary romance. It's very different from what I'm used to write and I hope my beta readers will like it. It's a stand alone.
I'm about to start the first draft of another NA Contemporary romance novel that is going to be sweet, a little angsty and quite sexy. It's about friends who lost contact for six years. I can't say more right now, but I'm quite eager to start writing this one.
Just to give you an idea, I have 9 ideas for NA novels to write for the next few years. That's crazy, I'm telling you!

6. What do you do in your spare time?

I want to answer that I write because I'm not a full time writer unfortunately. But I'm not writing or reading every time that I've got some spare time, so I'd say that I love to visit museums. Once upon a time, I wanted to be either an archeologist or a paleontologist. I guess my love for museums never disappeared.
I also love to go to the movies and I'm a fan of hockey. I live in France and I'm lucky to live in a city with a really great Hockey team. Whenever I can, I love to go to a game.

7. Who's your inspiration?

My inspiration? Wow. Because I had a complicated life at some point when I was a kid and growing up, I have a hard time to answer. Though, my grandmother is a very important person to me.

8. If you were stranded on a desert island which character do you want by your side?

I want a character that you have yet to meet in my next NA novel. He's got some military traininng and I think it'd be quite helpful on a desert island. I'm not even sure that I'd be able to know what could be eaten or not and what to do not to die after a few hours alone on a desert island. Moreover, I'm so clumsy that it's not even funny.
At the same time, Duke has the comforting and securing thing going for him. I think I'd feel quite good with him.

9. Team Edward or Jacob?

Don't hate me but I'm not a huge fan of this series. When I was in high school, I decided to read it with a friend of mine because we wanted to understand the whole love going on for this series and I enjoyed it but that's all there is to say. Though, I always had a thing for the vampires so I'd say Edward even if he is annoying sometimes.

10. Team Peeta or Gale?

Peeta. Love this character. Now I want to read this series all over again!

11. What are you reading right now?

At this very moment I finished Out of Line and I'm about to start reading Unspoken by Jen Frederick.
